Renew Our Days
|
It was a lot of years ago. I can’t tell you exactly when; but I could vividly describe every detail of the moments that forever changed my life. I had picked up my Bible casually, having been a Bible teacher and worship leader for quite some time, I opened it to no place in particular and my eyes fell perfectly upon these words, “There is no fear of God before their eyes.” It spoke to me in that powerful instant with no regard to what words lay before or even seeing the next phrase. These words, alone, were intended for me in that moment. I shrugged it off. I looked back down at the page again and it was as though were no other words written at all. Everything else was a blur. I had to deal with this passage. I pondered for more than a moment, looking out the window as the traffic passed by, “What does it mean to have a healthy, biblical fear of God?” I realized that I didn’t really know. I mean, I’m sure that I had preached on the subject and studied out the necessity of having a sense of awe for our Lord and Creator; but as I considered what was in my own heart, I had no personal intimate experience with what it meant. And so I prayed, still looking out the window, without any sense of severity or passion, “Lord, teach me to fear You.”

What you are about to experience in these pages is a journey in what it means to understand the fear of the Lord: to begin to recognize who He is in power, in love, in mercy and in absolute and undeniable righteousness. RenewOurDays is my journey, becoming something altogether different than the being I was when I first decided to walk with Him, to learn who He is and to be His.
The phrase "renew our days" is from an old Jewish prayer that declares the wonder and beauty and relevance of God's Word. It doesn't suggest that we go back to the good ol' days. It reminds us that when we look around and find ourselves suddenly not quite where expected to be, we can start again by setting our bearing on the Word of God. |
